Studio Project: Exploratory Line (due Class 4)
Each completed project is discussed by the class as a group, these discussions are called critique and are an important part of art education. We will use a variety of critique formats including the Critical Response Process. The purposes of critique include presenting your ideas and intentions, learning art vocabulary, understanding other artists’ work and ideas, and giving thoughtful constructive feedback to your classmates. Your classmates can be a great resource. Be generous by presenting your best work and giving honest feedback
The ground rules for presenting work in critique are: Share your work with the class, don’t apologize or present work that you need to apologize for, and be honest. Learning how other people perceive what you make is valuable information. You don’t need to take negative feedback personally.
The ground rules for critiquing someone else’s work are: One person speaks at a time, share your observations, offer specific observations and be constructive.
For today's Critique, meet in your Act 1 groups, and take a few minutes to look at your Project with your group. Together, identify three examples of Design Elements & Principles in each photograph. Then we will meet as a class, and each group will present the projects from their group. I will ask the class what each self portrait photograph says about that person.
Description of the Project:
9 drawings, each on a piece of letter size paper (8.5x12”)
Each drawing needs to have a line that starts or ends on *at least* two of the four edges of the paper - each line *must* be in the middle of the edge ( ie 5.5” on the left and right side and 4.25” on the top and bottom)
Experiment with the many possible types of line and uses for line, as shown in the presentations Exploratory Line and Point - Line - Shape.
Photograph each drawing individually, and take a a photo of the nine drawings together.
Materials: Pen or Marker on letter size paper (8.5x12”)
How to submit: Put the photos in your IVA Course Folder and add them to the Exploratory Line slideshow in the Interactive Slideshows folder.
